CONFLUENCIA BILBAO
Final Year Design Project
The Spanish word ‘CONFLUENCIA’ used for this project’s name refers to a gathering or convergence of diverse elements, ideas, or activities. This project envisions this word to embody a place where different creative pursuits come together and can be celebrated.
The new design proposes a dynamic landscape of co-working and public spaces both inside and outside the building. These spaces can adapt over time to accommodate various uses, fostering an ever-changing interactive environment that expands the possibilities and freedom of its users.
BILBAO AMENITY BRIDGE
Final Year Introductory Design Project
A transformative 200-meter bridge is designed and located in the bustling city of Bilbao, which aims to create an immersive educational experience for the community, inspired by the principles of Maria Montessori and Liberationsim pedagogy. With a strategic location near multiple educational institutions, the bridge seamlessly blends lively, discovery-based learning on one end with serene, self-directed study on the other.
Through engaging design and interactive facilities, it fosters social interaction and exploration, while offering spaces for both guided and independent learning. This initiative seeks to revitalise the city by emphasizing education as a catalyst for community integration and growth.
FUTUREMARKET
3rd Year Design Project
Few activities unite us as human beings in the way shopping does. It is a way of expanding communities and flourishing cooperation. Throughout the evolution of architecture for shopping, the space is increasingly divorced from the outside with the introduction of appliances such as air conditioning and artificial lighting. As shopping is an ingrained part of our lives, lifestyles are also gradually divorced from nature and its origin.
Since supermarkets are a constantly visited place, they are a suitable starting place to create a new type of ecology in the urban area. This project takes its starting point on Grimshaw Architects’ Sainsbury’s superstore in Camden Town, which is close to the end of its life, as the architectural cadaver. Futuremarket attempts to revitalise the remains, with the aim of giving the old building a further 125 years of life. The renovated building could potentially become a new self-sufficient supermarket model, once that can grow and expand to become a food department store, allowing other activities and the growth of a community while producing fresh vegetables and fruits.
DUNGENESS LEARNING CENTRE
2nd Year Design Project
Embracing the spirit of Don Quixote's philosophy, this visionary project is dedicated to nurturing social sustainability over the next three decades by blurring the boundaries between individuals, community, and physical space. Just as Don Quixote exemplifies boundless curiosity and imagination, the project recognises children as catalysts for uniting communities and attracting active participation.
Centered on creating a lifelong learning space for the younger generation, it not only facilitates conventional educational methods but also fosters an environment of freedom, exploration, and improvisation. Children are encouraged to embark on their unique journeys, bridging the gap between reality and fantasy, and learning through hands-on, physical activities while fostering intergenerational connections.
